If you are new to the world of blogging, then use your first blog post as an opportunity to spell out exactly who you are and what you stand for. Try to think of what makes you unique in your field and use this as a focus point for further blog content. This way you are establishing your graphic design skills as a brand right from the start, but also the blog helps to form that personal and intimate touch, that brands often don´t have.

You don´t just have to stick to blogging on your own site. Share your expertise by offering to blog for other bigger websites in your field. This can help increase your brand and bring your work to a new audience. The key to blogging for other websites is to look at their target audience, identify their core interests and see how this fits to with your brand identity. Don´t just stick to the obvious graphic design websites but look further afield as this will increase awareness of your skills on the whole.

Invite Questions and Discussion Topics

A great way to keep people coming back to your blog is to invite questions and discussion topics from your audience. Raise a controversial issue related to your field and set out your viewpoints. You will get people agreeing and disagreeing, but this type of engagement with your audience will allow people to identify what you, as a brand, stand for.

Another brilliant way to market your graphic design services through blogging is to teach people something. Posting step-by-step information about a topic which you are an expert in, will be highly viewed and shared from those who want to learn more about the subject. It will also encourage questions and for people to keep coming back for more tutorials.
If you already have a blog with some great content, why not update the content to make it more relevant and republish it on the site. You and your brand have probably grown since you first posted the content so you can rehash the content to fit your stronger presence and identity. Also, freelancing as a graphic designer will always bring unique challenges and projects, so share your experiences with your readers throughout your career.

Make sure that you use other social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, which allow your followers to keep up with your new content and can also be useful tools to allow you to keep up with industry news by following other key players in the field.

Lastly, don´t forget to analyse your blog. Check Google analytics for some real insight into what content followers really want to see and maybe also what content didn´t really get anywhere in the blogosphere, so you can really hit your target market with useful and informative content.

All these great tips will ensure that you increase your online presence and encourage you to see yourself as a brand by raising awareness of your services.
