We all want our businesses to be as profitable as possible, which means looking at and improving several key areas across the company. While the majority of us may look at the likes of reducing overheads and increasing productivity, very few people look at how different management styles or methodologies can have an impact. Many of us will have heard about the negative effects of micro-managing and much more; however, what some business owners may not have heard of is Lean Six Sigma. Because of that, the vast majority of business owners won’t feel the benefits of the methodology.

This is quite a shame, as there are quite a few ways that it can positively impact your business and increase your company’s overall productivity. On top of this, many people who do know about the process and have practiced occasionally may not know that there are a number of Lean Six Sigma certificates, such as Green Belt Certification, that highlight the impact a certain person can have with the process.

What Is Lean Six Sigma?

Lean Six Sigma is a process through which a business can identify and fix any issues that may be affecting efficiency or productivity. However, what many people may not realize is that there are two different methodologies that help a business, depending on what stage of the business you’re in. The first of these is DMAIC. This stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control, and is normally used for the processes that your business is already involved in.

By using the DMAIC process, a business owner will be able to identify any methods or processes that your company is involved in that’s having an undesirable effect on your business. This includes the likes of processes that aren’t working to their full productivity or otherwise negatively affecting the business. With that in mind, your company will be able to identify these processes and improve them by instituting the DMAIC Lean Six Sigma process.

While that can be great for what your business is already involved in, it doesn’t mean anything if you’re planning on instituting new processes into your company. However, this is where the DMADV process comes in, which stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Define and Verify. By using this methodology, you’ll be able to measure and define what kind of impact a potential process will have on your business. As such, you’ll then be able to perfect the process before even implementing it.

While knowing what Lean Six Sigma is can be interesting. What many business owners want to know is how it can benefit their business. That being said, there are a few notable benefits that it can have for your overall company.

Benefits Of Lean Six Sigma

Time Management

The vast majority of employers have had some difficulty with managing time at some point or another, and this affects our employees too. However, this is one of the primary areas that Lean Six Sigma can do to benefit your employees and the overall company. This is chiefly because the process helps them to set clearly defined goals while also helping them to manage their time effectively.

Because of this, many employees may be happier because they feel less swamped at work, which can then have a positive impact on their productivity. After all, an employee with effective time management skills is one that can be incredibly productive. When the process is done across the entire business, this means that all of your employee’s benefit which will be a net gain in productivity, and thus profitability, for your business.

Strategic Planning

There are a considerable amount of things to consider when developing a business strategy. This can include the likes of a SWOT analysis and much more. However, knowing a few areas where you can improve a business might not mean much unless you can act on it. This is where Lean Six Sigma comes in. It won’t just identify each of the areas you need to improve in, but it can also help highlight how you can improve them.

With the impact that it can have on your business when it comes to eliminating unnecessary complexity and increasing profitability, you can think of Lean Six Sigma as a practical way of improving your business. As such, it can be something that has quite a considerable impact on your company.
