Realtors thrive on reputation and word-of-mouth buzz. With the Internet and social media, the community for building that buzz is greatly expanded. It’s important to establish a strong presence online and in social media to build reputation, reach new clients, and drive sales.

Here are just a few basic tips for branding and social media for realtors:

Tips #1: Create a Professional Web Design

Your website is your new calling card. Your design should not only draw visitors in, but it should also reflect your values and the values of your target audience. For example, if you specialize in selling luxury condos, your web design should be slick and polished. If you sell mostly historical fixer-uppers, your design should be quirky and charming. Your clients should be able to get a feel for who you are at a glance of your site.

Tips #2: Use SEO

Search engine optimization is critical to driving visitors to your site. SEO takes advantage of keywords, page tags, and other elements in order for your website to appear higher in search results when users search for terms related to your site. You can also use SEO in your social media profiles, helping them to rank higher in search results, as well. Remember to use keywords in your page titles, in your content, and in your picture descriptions.

Tips #3: Build an E-mail List

An opt-in e-mail list is a key tool for building long-term relationships with your site visitors. The e-mail list is an especially useful tool for realtors, who can use it to showcase available homes to interested clients. Make sure you include an opt-in form on your site right from the beginning, and use incentives and promotions to grow your list over time. Then use your list to promote your list of homes as they become available.

Tips #4: Grow Social Media Followers

Growing your followers on social media sites is similar to growing your e-mail list. Your followers are a waiting list of people who are interested in what you have to sell: Houses. You can find followers by targeting users, looking for people who are either in your target audience (certain age, location, etc.) or who have used hashtags or terms in their status updates that indicate they are in the market for a new home. You can also purchase pay-per-click advertising to grow your followers.

Tips #5: Join Pinterest

Pinterest is the fastest-growing social network, and its visual medium is perfect for realtors. You can create pins and boards that feature the homes you have for sale. Not only will you get exposure for these homes among your own followers, but the nature of the site means that you will likely to get a lot of exposure among other users through rapid re-pinning. Make sure you pick your best photos to encourage the most sharing and get the most exposure.

There are many more factors involved in online branding and marketing, but these tips will get you started as a realtor online. The key is to focus on a quality web design, build an opt-in e-mail list, and grow a strong social media presence through targeting the right followers and joining the right networks.
